Qatar Airways Bans Walkie-Talkies and Pagers on Flights to Lebanon After Explosions

DOHA, Qatar — Qatar Airways has prohibited passengers from bringing walkie-talkies and pagers on all flights from Beirut to Lebanon following a series of explosions involving these devices. The airline implemented the ban after at least 32 people were killed and over 3,000 injured in incidents across three areas in Lebanon.

The ban, effective immediately and until further notice, follows reports that over 3,000 pagers, walkie-talkies, and handheld radios spontaneously exploded in Lebanon on September 16. Many victims were reportedly members of Hezbollah, with numerous others sustaining serious injuries.

In an official statement, Qatar Airways confirmed the restrictions and emphasized their commitment to passenger safety. The airline's decision comes amidst ongoing investigations into the explosions, which authorities allege may be linked to Israeli interference.

Reports suggest that these devices were modified to include explosives, specifically between 1 to 2 ounces, and were remotely controlled. The involvement of such electronic gadgets has raised significant security concerns among airlines and travelers.

For now, the restrictions remain in place as investigations continue into the cause of the explosions and potential threats to public safety.
