Shehbaz Sharif new PM: Former Pakistan PM Imran Khan was shown doors after losing the no-confidence motion. The captain resigned soon after the Opposition coalition succeeded in deposing the Pak PM.
Shehbaz Sharif will now take the oath as the new Pakistan PM. He is the younger brother of three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
After a series of political dramas unfolded, Mr Khan had to resign from the post of PM.
The 70-year-old Junior Sharif has also served as chief minister of Punjab, Pakistan’s most populous province.
The junior Sharif leads the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN); he is known for his efficiency when it comes to policy implementation in the regions.
He has also made some significant infrastructure improvements in Pakistan. Shahbaz too has faced corruption charges in the past. He has spent some of his time in jail also during Imran Khan’s tenure.
Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition with other opposition lawmakers to secure the required numbers worked against Mr Khan.
