In a shocking turn of events in the midst of Syria's deepening political crisis, reports have emerged claiming that President Bashar al-Assad's aircraft has crashed. According to sources, the crash occurred 500 meters above ground, and debris has already been recovered. The aircraft reportedly disappeared from radar moments before the crash.

Assad, with his family, was reportedly trying to leave the country when the incident took place. The reports state that the rebels shot down the plane, which would be a major escalation in the civil war in Syria.

The Syrian conflict, now in its 12th year, has seen intensified rebel offensives in recent weeks. After taking key cities like Aleppo and Homs, rebel forces have advanced toward the capital, Damascus. Reports indicate that Assad and his family had already fled the capital following the rebels' entry into the city.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, one of the more prominent rebel groups, claimed Syria and Damascus as theirs. It is led by Abu Mohammad al-Julani who was previously affiliated with al-Qaeda and has declared that a new era has just begun to liberate Syria from Assad's rule.

Mass desertion has occurred due to an inability on the part of the Syrian military to ensure the security of cities and towns. Russia, Iran, and Lebanon's Hezbollah, among others, have confessed their incapacity to make further assistance. The unraveling crisis heralds an important point in Syria's history as the country moves toward a possible political turn of the tide with surging dominance by rebels.
