The Taliban government in Afghanistan is now pressing the world nations to release billions of dollars of central bank reserves to help it battle mass starvation.
Afghanistan’s money has been frozen since the hardliners Taliban ousted the Western-backed regime in August.
However, the ultras have been assuring of respecting human rights, including women education.
All they need is funds toward humanitarian aid that is the need of the hour.
Under the Taliban rule from 1996-2001, women have largely been oppressed and their education suffered a lot.
“The money belongs to the Afghan nation. Just give us our own money,” ministry spokesman Ahmad Wali Haqmal said. “Freezing this money is unethical and is against all international laws and values.”
The situation has gotten worse as Afghanistan faces a collapse of its fragile economy.
However, the western powers want to avert a food crisis in Afghanistan. But at the same time, they all refused to officially recognise the Taliban government.
If reserves remain frozen, Afghans will not be able to pay for their imports.
Also, they will not be able to pay for their shipments and banks will start to collapse.
The Taliban hardliners seized power in Afghanistan soon after the US troops withdrawal in August.
