Tornado in US leaves a trail of destruction and death; President Biden pledges support

Published Date:

Some of the states of the US saw a devastating swarm of tornadoes killing several people, leaving a trail of destruction.

The tornadoes ripped through Kentucky and five other US states.

Videos and pictures that were shared on social media Saturday from Mayfield in Kentucky show buildings torn apart by the storm with bent metal. A trail of fallen trees, scattered across the streets and only the remnants of houses can be seen here.

The photos of the destruction caused by tornadoes from US media channels and citizens show a black cylinder sweeping across the ground, illuminated by intermittent blasts of lightning.

People are calling it the most severe tornado event in Kentucky’s history.

Moreover, a number of counties in Kentucky were left devastated by at least four tornadoes.

Numerous people remained unaccounted for as rescuers kept searching on for the missing workers in and around the factories.

US President Joe Biden has also pledged support to the states affected by a swarm of devastating tornadoes.

Furthermore, the powerful twisters destroyed a candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky. Besides, the natural disaster claimed at least six lives at an Amazon warehouse in Illinois.

This tornado was triggered by a series of overnight thunderstorms. The unusually high temperatures and humidity create an environment for such extreme weather events.

As per the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Centre, it also received 36 reports of tornadoes touching down in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
