Trump Targeted in Shooting Attempt by Ryan Routh, Ukrainian Supporter
The agency has confirmed that the incident was an attempted assassination.
Washington, Sept. 16 — Former President Donald Trump was the target of a shooting attempt by Ryan Routh, a 58-year-old supporter of Ukraine, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The agency has confirmed that the incident was an attempted assassination.
Routh, who is reported to have supported Ukraine in its fight against Russia, allegedly targeted Trump during a recent event. Authorities seized an AK-47-style assault rifle, a scope, two backpacks, and various tools at the scene. Officials noted that Routh was approximately 300 to 500 yards away from Trump when the shooting occurred.
The incident follows a similar attempt two months ago in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was injured. During that attack, he sustained a minor ear injury.
Routh admitted to traveling to Kyiv to fight against Russia and to assist in recruiting volunteers for the Ukrainian cause. Before relocating to Hawaii around 2018, Routh graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He had previously supported Trump’s rivals in the upcoming election, Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley, and had publicly urged Trump to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Routh had also expressed concerns on social media about Trump attempting to enslave Americans, further highlighting his motivations.
