UK monitors new Delta variant amind mounting concerns

Europe witnesses a fresh wave of Covid-19, Austria embraces complete lockdown

A new mutation of the Covid-19 Delta variant is spreading in England. The concerned authorities are currently monitoring and assessing it, as per the official UK health data reports.

AY.4.2 is being dubbed as ‘Delta Plus’. It contains mutations that might give the coronavirus which causes Covid-19 a greater survival advantage.

But as per the experts, it is responsible for the continued high number of daily coronavirus infections in the country.

Any new sublineages of Delta are regularly identified and designated.

A Delta sublineage newly designated as AY.4.2 is noted to be expanding in England. This new mutation is not yet considered as a variant of concern.

COVID-19 restrictions were lifted across the United Kingdom in July after three national lockdowns.

The rise is being attributed to high numbers of coronavirus infections among the masses.
