A Pratapgarh based lawyer has filed a civil suit against former President Barack Obama and the writer of “The Promised Land,” a two-part political memoir, which talks about Rahul Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The lawyer has demanded the registration of an FIR against the writer of the book for insulting leaders and hurting the sentiments of their followers.
The national president of All India Rural Bar Association, Gyan Prakash Shukla, has filed the civil suit in the Lalganj Civil Court. The case has been scheduled for hearing on December 1, 2020. The lawyer, in his petition, has alleged that Obama’s remark on Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi is humiliating and an attack on the sovereignty of the country.
He has also claimed that the millions of the followers of the leaders feel hurt by the remarks made on their leaders. It might lead to chaos if the supporters of these leaders take to the street to protest against the book, he has said.
If an FIR is not registered against the book and the writer, I will go on a fast in front of the US embassy, he has said. In his political memoir, Obama has claimed that Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi picked Manmohan Singh because he posed no threat to her son Rahul Gandhi whom she was grooming to be her heir. He has also described former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a man with uncommon wisdom and said that he owed his position to congress Chief Sonia Gandhi.
