An Italian woman, 23, received six doses of Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine – all at once – after she was admitted to a hospital in Tuscany.

The woman received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Sunday, a Noa hospital spokesperson said. The health worker mistakenly filled a syringe with a bottle full of the vaccine, which had six doses, and administered it to the woman.

As soon as the health worker saw five empty syringes, she realised her mistake. Thankfully, the patient was in good health, a report in CNN said.

Doctors kept her under strict observation for 24 hours in the hospital. Later, she was discharged on Monday, it said.

The doctors will continue monitoring the woman’s immune response to the “massive dose of vaccine”, the spokesperson said. The patient is an intern in the psychology department of the hospital.

However, an investigation was initiated and the hospital spokesperson said it was “maybe just human error, definitively not on purpose.”
