WhatsApp Introduces Low-Light Mode, New Video Call Filters & Backgrounds

WhatsApp latest update includes a low-light mode that enhances video quality in low-light conditions, along with new filter and background options. Available on iOS and Android, the feature must be activated for each call, helping users enjoy clearer video in darker environments.

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, always develops more features in its platforms to improve user experience. Recently, the company updated the app for better video call quality. The new low-light mode has been added to the app, which will gradually enhance the video quality, even in poorly lit rooms. This feature targets the issue created during video calls directly and benefits especially those in very badly lit areas.

New filters and background options

Together with the low-light mode, WhatsApp has offered new filter and background features for video calls. It brings an advanced user experience, although some users already have this. Low light mode will be able to make video calls even smoother, without noise in visible conditions during the darker settings.

How to Turn on Low-Light Mode in WhatsApp

Low-light mode can be accessed in easy steps below:

  • Open WhatsApp and start a video call.
  • Shift your video feed to full screen.
  • Tap the ‘bulb’ icon located in the upper right corner to activate low-light mode.
  • Tap the bulb icon again to enable it, instantly enhancing video call quality.

Low light is accessible on all the versions of the WhatsApp application from both iOS and Android. So far, it does not work with Windows. This user must toggle on low light each time a call is to be made because it is not given the option of permanently saving it. However, although Windows users don't get this feature, they too can manually adjust the brightness of the screen and it would brighten the display of the call just a bit to make it appear visible.
