Zomato Launches Food Rescue Feature: Buy Canceled Orders at Discounted Prices
Zomato Food Rescue Feature: It has introduced a new feature known as "Food Rescue," which strives to minimize food waste triggered by canceled orders. It sells the canceled orders of people at a discounted price from nearby restaurants for a short time. According to the statement of Zomato, this service would provide customers with freshly canceled orders in their undisturbed packaging; however, perishable items like ice cream and shakes won't be sold under this service.
How Zomato Food Rescue Feature Works
In its blog post, Zomato says that canceled orders will be reflected on the app within a 3-kilometer radius of the delivery partner. These orders will only be available for a few minutes and can be claimed by customers who are around. In case of an online payment, the amount will be split between the restaurant and Zomato. This platform will retain the government taxes only.

Benefits to Restaurants and Delivery Partners
Based on Zomato, 99.9% of restaurant partners would want this to be taken up. It would allow restaurants to recover the cost of the canceled order. Restaurants would also share the amount paid by the new customer. In addition, the delivery partner would get reimbursement of the traveling expense incurred by the delivery partner while delivering the order .
Elimination of Feature Misuse
With that, Zomato has taken the decision of billing the consumers 100% if they cancel their order. This feature will not be applicable on items such as ice cream, shakes, and smoothies. Their non-vegetarian orders will not be shown to vegetarian customers; this is done to give them a personalized experience. The "Food Rescue" feature helps the company alleviate food waste and, at the same time, offer the consumer quality and cost-effective food.
It appears this new initiative by Zomato would be a win-win situation for the customers and the restaurant partners in terms of less waste and discounted food, ensuring all people benefit from this process.
