New Maruti Suzuki Dzire Achieves Top Safety Ratings in Global NCAP Tests

The newly launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire in the Indian market has made headlines this week by achieving an impressive safety rating. It has scored a remarkable five stars for adult occupant safety and four stars for child occupant safety in the Global NCAP crash tests. This makes the new Dzire the first model from Maruti Suzuki to receive a five-star rating, setting a new benchmark for vehicle safety in India.

Enhanced Safety Features of the New Dzire

The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire comes equipped with a range of advanced safety features that enhance its protection capabilities. Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and pedestrian protection, ensuring comprehensive safety for all occupants. The vehicle's design and engineering focus on providing robust protection during crashes, which is evident from its impressive test results.

Global NCAP’s crash test protocols evaluate frontal and side impact protection for all vehicles, as well as the effectiveness of Electronic Stability Control (ESC). For vehicles to achieve the highest star ratings, assessments for pedestrian protection and side pole impact protection are also necessary.

Insights from Safety Experts

David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation, commented on the significance of the new Dzire’s five-star rating. He stated, “The new Dzire’s five-star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki, compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result.”

Ward expressed optimism about the future, noting, “We are hopeful that Maruti will strive to achieve this high level of safety performance across their entire model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.”

Safety Assessment Details of the New Dzire

The new Dzire underwent voluntary testing by Global NCAP, and the results reveal that its structure and footwell area were rated as stable, capable of withstanding further loads. All seating positions are equipped with three-point seatbelts, and i-Size anchorages come standard.

During the frontal crash test, the driver dummy demonstrated marginal protection for the chest. However, the side impact tests showed full protection for adult occupants, and the pole test indicated complete head protection.

For child safety, the assessments were also promising. The 18-month-old dummy exhibited full protection, while the three-year-old dummy received good protection to the head and chest. However, neck protection could be improved with the installation of a rearward-facing Child Restraint System (CRS). Side impact protection for child occupants was rated as full protection, showcasing the new Dzire's commitment to safety for all ages.

Comparing the Old and New Dzire Models

In contrast, the assessment for the previous Dzire model revealed a significantly lower safety rating. The outgoing model received only two stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection in the Global NCAP tests. The production of this model is expected to end this year, highlighting the importance of upgrading to the new model for enhanced safety features.

The previous Dzire came with only two frontal airbags and ESC as standard, and its structure was rated as unstable. The side impact tests indicated weak protection for the dummy's chest, and the pole test was not performed because this model did not offer side head protection even as an option.

Both child dummy occupants in the old model were seated in a rearward-facing CRS, using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. Unfortunately, the lack of three-point seatbelts in all seating positions and head contact with the interior of the car contributed to the low ratings for child occupant safety.

Conclusion: A New Era of Safety for Maruti Suzuki

The launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire marks a significant step forward in vehicle safety standards for the brand. With its impressive five-star Global NCAP rating, advanced safety features, and commitment to protecting all occupants, the new Dzire sets a high bar for other vehicles in its class. As Maruti Suzuki continues to innovate and prioritize safety, consumers can look forward to more reliable and secure options in the future.

By focusing on safety, the new Dzire not only enhances driver and passenger confidence but also promotes a culture of responsible driving. For those considering a new vehicle, the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire represents a smart choice in safety and performance.
