Blaze in Delhi's Kirti Nagar Furniture Market Claims Lives: Faulty Wiring Suspected in Deadly Fire!

Delhi, India — A tragic fire swept through a building early Saturday morning in Kirti Nagar's bustling furniture market, killing two people. The blaze, reportedly starting around 4:30 a.m. on the rooftop of a building used for making sofa covers, spread rapidly, raising alarm across the community.

Fire Breaks Out at Dawn, Kills Two Workers

Police and fire department personnel received the alarm at around 4:30 a.m. after several people spotted flames along the rooftop of the multi-story building. Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the fire and fire personnel took control of it after intense efforts. Two workers were found dead on the rooftop later.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer confirmed that the two persons who died were Atul Rai, 45, and Nandkishore, 65. Rai was from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh and was working in the building, which was engaged in sofa cover manufacturing. Nandkishore was from Gaya, Bihar, and was engaged in goods transportation. Both were staying overnight in a small room on the rooftop where they were trapped.

Possible Causes and Investigation Underway

The fire is reportedly initiated by an electrical short circuit, though all causes behind such incidents are under investigation. With the contents of flammable chemicals along with furniture material inside, the fire quickly swept through the building. Teams of Forensic Science Laboratory are performing a detailed investigation of the causes leading to this fire accident. And both bodies have sent for post-mortem.

Quick Response by Fire Officials

Soon after the alert call, the fire brigades were despatched to the spot. They were in an easy position to control the conflagration. Though the inferno was confined within the site, there has been a severe loss of two lives which has cast a dark shroud over the town.

Presently, the local administration and the police are striving to make the building up-to-date with fire safety rules to avoid such events in the future. Kirti Nagar furniture market, one of the most active commercial centers in Delhi, had its previous fire incidents, therefore the need for increased security measures.

Community Demands Safety Improvement

Community leaders and local business owners are demanding stricter fire safety protocols following this tragedy, especially in high-risk commercial zones like Kirti Nagar. Given that furniture manufacturing involves the use of highly flammable materials, updated fire systems and routine safety inspections are being called for by both officials and residents.
