When Ratan Tata Borrowed Money from Amitabh Bachchan to Make a Phone Call at London Airport – A Warm Memory
On one poignant revelation on the most recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16, there was a legendary Bollywood person by the name of Amitabh Bachchan revealing an unforgettable memory involving the late Ratan Tata. Bachchan narrated how the revered industrialist once borrowed money from him at London's Heathrow Airport to make a phone call - a candid moment that marked the legendary humility of Tata.
In a nostalgic conversation with guests R Madhavan, Farah Khan, and Boman Irani, Bachchan sent the audience back into a rare rendezvous with Ratan Tata as he flew to London. He remembers that when he landed, the Tata scion couldnt find his staff waiting at the airport for him. Desperate to reach them, Tata entered a phone booth but soon realized he didnt have enough change to make the call. Turning to Bachchan, who was within earshot, Tata pleaded, "Amitabh, can I borrow some money from you? I have no money to make a telephone call!
Bachchan said he was taken aback by this request made by one of India's most respected industrialists. This moment spoke of Tata's simplicity and earthiness - a quality with which he is known for all his life.
However, that was not the last association of Bachchan and Tata. Both icons had an encounter in Bollywood when Tata's house released the thriller Aetbaar in 2004, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Bipasha Basu, and John Abraham. With a heavy-duty star cast and with Vikram Bhatt on the director's chair, this movie, too, was unable to hit the box office because it gathered only ₹4.25 crore. From this incident, Tata seemed to keep himself away from the world of cinema; however, this was the only one of its kind and has been remembered so far. The day after, October 7 has been said to be very grieved by many people's lives across India upon the passing of Ratan Tata. The body of veteran industrialist Ratan Tata lay in state covered under a glass coffin doped with the tricolor flag. He was bid with his last respects paid for by the leading citizens that came from all walks of society. The leaders in those ceremonies were the home minister, Amit Shah and Eknath Shinde of chief minister of Maharashtra as he finalized the final rites. Bollywood too didn't miss the chance as Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Priyanka Chopra, and Anushka Sharma, among other stars, were paying emotional tributes.
