162 Helmet Manufacturers Banned: Learn How Authentic Helmets Are Made

government has taken strong action against low-quality helmets, banning 162 companies. Wearing a helmet is mandatory for two-wheeler riders in the country

The central government is now more watchful than ever about the safety of two-wheeler rides. Focusing on road safety, the government has banned 162 helmet manufacturers that fail to meet BSI (Bureau of Indian Standards) regulations. This action targets manufacturers who were producing substandard helmets.
The roadside stalls often carry helmets with popular names, but these helmets never come up to the BSI standard. Most of the helmets are duplicates, and companies make an inappropriate use of their brand name for misleading consumers. In fact, the government has recently been very stern while taking actions against such firms.

162 Helmet Manufacturers Banned, How Helmet Production Takes Place

We recently visited India's largest helmet manufacturer, Steelbird, to study the production process of helmets meeting BSI, DOT, and ECE 22.06 standards. First, designing helmets with safety and comfort in mind by the users is the very first process of manufacturing.
 Helmet Manufacturing Process
Once the design is finalized, the thermocol is given a shape that it is to be given inside the helmet. This thermocol can not be broken by any  human hand or foot and has to be shaped with great pressure machines to fit different sizes of helmets. Once this design and size of the thermocol is finalized, the body of the helmet is painted and decorated with graphics. The workers start assembling it, adding foam and fabric and buckles onto the helmet.

Helmet and Visor Testing

When we visited the Steelbird factory, we saw a very strict testing process. They tried burning the visor with fire, which did not get damaged even then. The helmet could also withstand some force and pressure on high-pressure machines. This whole process ensures that good helmets are there that meet the safety standards, and the rider will not be exposed to the risks associated with counterfeit helmets.
