BJP accelerates ahead of Maharashtra Elections as the party gears up for its third list of candidates declared. The total hopefuls it has announced to take its part in the electoral battle to be fought out in 2024 is 25. The third list issued by the party adds onto the earlier declarations and gives a grand total of 146 candidates to the contest.

And that's not the end of it! Even earlier, the BJP had released its second list with the names of candidates for 22 seats, whereas in the first list, as many as 99 candidates were announced. As if the stakes were not too high, the party was now out to fill the vacant slots. After all, the Mahayuti still had to name candidates for 28 more of its 288 seats.Of course, the most interesting is the third list with the name of a contestant for the scheduled Nanded Lok Sabha by-election-the BJP has Santuk Marotrao Hambarde on its roster.

But this time, it is a controversy that is creating news instead of his, courtesy Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who filed his nomination officially from the Kopri-Papakhadi seat in the state on October 28. He is presently the sitting MLA for that seat. His journey may not be a walkover, as he's ready to face a very serious contest from Kedar Dighe of the Uddhav faction of Shiv Sena.
