In a major crackdown on corruption, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested senior IAS officer Sanjeev Hans and former RJD MLA Gulab Yadav in connection with the Jal Jeevan Mission scam. The arrests were made following multiple raids at their residences in Patna and Delhi on Friday morning.

Sanjeev Hans, a top bureaucrat, and Gulab Yadav were taken into custody after ED officials uncovered incriminating documents and evidence related to money laundering. The scam involves significant financial irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, aimed at providing clean drinking water in rural areas.

Details of the Arrest

The ED conducted simultaneous raids at various locations linked to Sanjeev Hans and Gulab Yadav, leading to their arrests. Sanjeev Hans was arrested from his government residence near the Energy Stadium in Patna, while Gulab Yadav was taken into custody from a resort in Delhi.

According to sources, the ED had earlier raided their premises in July, where they seized high-value items, including luxury watches and over a kilogram of gold jewelry. Both Hans and Yadav are also under investigation for possessing assets disproportionate to their known income.

Scam Unfolds

Sanjeev Hans, a native of Punjab, joined the Bihar cadre in 1997 after clearing the UPSC exams. Over the years, he held several prominent positions, including Secretary of the Water Resources Department and the Bihar State Power Holding Company. Former MLA Gulab Yadav, who served as an RJD representative from Jhanjharpur, is also implicated in the money laundering scheme.
