Political Row Sparks Action Against Cops in Chinhat Custodial Death Case
It was at Chinhat police station that Mohit Pandey died in custody. The Police Commissioner, Amarendra Kumar Sengar, took bold steps against this incident, removing the inspector of the Chinhat police station, Inspector Ashwini Kumar Chaturvedi. The new appointed inspector of Chinhat police station is Sub-Inspector Bharat Kumar Pathak who has been transferred from Gazipur.

Mohit's mother filed an FIR against Inspector Chaturvedi and other police officers for murder. This drew sharp criticism from political leaders such as Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati. Yadav said that police stations have become centers of oppression and pointed out that custodial deaths are becoming increasingly common in Uttar Pradesh, referring to previous cases.
