Meerut, UP : Tensions ran high in Ganeshpur village under the Sardhana police station area of Meerut after a dispute between two groups reportedly over cricket and the use of an open field for making cow dung cakes escalated into communal unrest. The dispute took a dramatic turn with allegations of harassment that brought quick police intervention into the matter.

According to preliminary reports, a clash broke out apparently over a disputed claim that members of one group were playing cricket in the field, which was used as domestic space. Allegations that there was harassment of a young woman further escalated into the clash, which left a father and daughter injured.

Police action and investigation

Local police reached the spot soon because the nature of the incident was communal. Several individuals have been taken into custody for interrogation. Both groups have filed complaints, and cases will be registered as per the statements and evidence collected during the process.

The complaining family alleges harassment and violence by the other group, while the latter claims that the allegations against them are baseless and politically motivated. A Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) came to Sardhana to study the situation and prevent further escalation.

Enhanced Security Measures

Meerut police continue to be on high alert, anticipating any commotion that may arise due to the recent unrest in Sambhal. Additional forces have been deployed in the area and the administration is conducting community meetings to ensure that everything remains alright.
