Shocking incident in Gorakhpur: Police outpost in-charge taken hostage, beaten up over land row

GORAKHPUR, UP – A police outpost in-charge was taken hostage and beaten up on Sunday in a heated land dispute in the Sikriganj area here. The incident raises serious concerns about the safety of law enforcing officials in rural areas.

Tension began when Rajan Yadav, from Dughra village, had an old landed dispute with Sarvan Yadav and Ram Yadav. According to reports, Sunday morning, Rajan Yadav was attacked by Sarvan and Ram Yadav. A police team, called in after the 100-emergency call, temporarily resolved the issue, sending both parties home.

Escalation and Assault

However, tensions flared again around 2 PM, leading to a violent clash between the two groups with stones and bricks being hurled. Outpost in-charge Rakesh Kumar and officer Vineet Singh reached the scene to placate but were resisted. At the time of the commotion, Sarvan reportedly incited women from his household to obstruct the police and then launched an attack on the officers.

The outpost in-charge, Rakesh Kumar, was also taken hostage and beaten up ruthlessly. In the brawl, both sides suffered injury.

Police Senior Intervention

By evening, however, Superintendent of Police (North) Jitendra Kumar, along with Circle Officer Khajni, Station House Officer (SHO) Belghat and SHO Sikriganj visited the spot to assess the situation. The authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway and action is being taken under the law against those who attacked the police officer.
