Fire Breaks Out at Varanasi Cant Station Parking, Over 200 Vehicles Destroyed

A fire broke out at Varanasi Cant Station’s parking area due to a short circuit, burning over 200 vehicles, including motorcycles and cars. Despite earlier attempts to control the fire, the blaze reignited, causing significant damage. The estimated loss is ₹3 crore.
 
Varanasi Cant fire incident: A devastating fire had broken out in the parking area of Varanasi Cant Station around 2:00 AM, destroying more than 200 vehicles, including cars and motorcycles, with an estimated damage of ₹3 crore.

The fire started earlier, around 9:00 PM on Friday, as a result of a short circuit of a motorcycle. Although the parking attendants and others around were able to smother the flames, they didn't realize the gravity of the situation. The railway authorities were informed but didn't act immediately.

At 1:30 AM, the fire reignited in the motorcycle seat cover that had been left unattended. The parking operator was asleep at the time, allowing the fire to spread rapidly. The situation worsened when the fuel tanks of two-wheelers exploded, causing panic.

By around 1:00 AM, the fire had spread across the parking area of platform number 1, engulfing more than 300 vehicles. Thick smoke and flames filled the station complex, causing chaos. According to Fire Department Inspector Lalji, over 200 vehicles were confirmed to have been destroyed.

To douse the flames, six fire tenders and special fire teams from the railway were deployed. There were railway security personnel and senior officers present at the spot too. The fire was finally brought under control, but the damage that had been caused was immense; losses were estimated to be ₹3 crore. A special investigation team has been constituted to probe the incident.
