Putin's Subtle Applause for Trump: What This Stealthy Move Says for the Future of US-Russian Affairs!

Although the government of Russia publicly does not endorse this step, it may demonstrate the cautious approach in handling US-Russia relations after the change in the government of America.

It should make Putin smile in silence by the win of Donald Trump over incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris in this particular edition of the 2024 US Presidential Election. According to Russian news site Verstka, Putin sent his congratulations to Trump through "mutual friends" or indirect contacts, while he has not made an official statement. Although the government of Russia publicly does not endorse this step, it may demonstrate the cautious approach in handling US-Russia relations after the change in the government of America.

The Nature of the Congratulatory Message

Congrats reportedly traveled unofficial channels, Russian insiders claimed. Senior parliamentary sources in Russia told the Financial Express that though senior politicians, including Putin, acknowledged Trump's win through personal connections, even this move appears on a more measured approach by the Russian administration, especially as it faces a relationship with the United States that has not been the warmest in years.

Kremlin's Stance on Future Cooperation with the U.S.

From Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, Putin has long been ready to have "constructive dialogue" with the U.S. Kremlin official emphasized that though depends on the response of Washington. According to comments by TASS news agency, Peskov stated that though Putin is prepared to discuss matters of rationality and mutual respect, much will depend on how the administration of Trump will treat this diplomatic relation.

Can Trump's Return Change US-Russian Relations?

Now, when the level of US-Russian relations has reached the lowest point ever, there may arise a question: Could a presidency of Trump, launched by inauguration on January 20, 2025, make sense? One moment the former Trump administration is associated with moments of cooperation with Russia at another with accusations of Russian interference into the internal policy of the US and security threats to elections. Peskov, for instance, said that "the ball is mainly in Washington's court," showing a de facto openness from Moscow to re-establish dialogue if the U.S. side is open for changing its position.

Diplomatic Channels for Further Engagements:

Peskov sidestepped more information about how Putin felt about this election result but did admit that Moscow closely follows the events in Washington. "Let's wait and see what happens in January," he said, then added his leadership would be evaluating chances for constructive dialogue after President Trump assumes office officially.

US-Russia Relations: A Long Road Ahead

Both have a history of ambivalence, with spasmodic cooperation on some global issues, but entrenched divisions on others-the Russian government and the Trump administration. Peskov's comments, however, seem to reflect that: things are unlikely to get worse, but a diplomatic reset should be mutual adjustments.

Any action from Moscow will be determined by factors like nuclear arms control, cyber-security measures, and mutual sovereignty respect as Trump prepares to take office. Russia remains a wait-and-see approach country, cautiously optimistic due to renewed diplomacy but still a little protective, due to very recent history.

While still far from clear is whether the victory of Trump would mark the renaissance or rebalancing of US-Russia relations, indirect words of congratulation from Putin indicate openness to engagement. The call by the Kremlin for "constructive dialogue" tells there that Moscow is keeping its eye on Washington for signs of reciprocity.
