US Elections 2024: How is Power Handover to Trump Post Election? Key Dates Explained
Donald Trump has emerged victorious in the U.S. Presidential Election and becomes the 47th president after garnering 277 out of the 538 electoral votes, more than the required 270 votes to win the election. Kamala Harris could not surpass the stronghold by the Democratic Party to receive only 224 seats. Even though it's not the end, as there are a few steps before January 2025, to be taken by Trump. Here's a glance at the four critical dates.
US Elections 2024: Key Dates for Trump’s Transition to Presidency
November 10: Once the electoral vote is determined, each state also ascertains its own electors, who form the Electoral College. In fact, states are responsible for finishing this process no later than December 11, where they are required to issue their Certificates of Ascertainment and sign with the governor's name.
December 17: On this day, each state's electors shall convene to vote in the offices of the president and vice president and transmit such certificates signed to Washington, D.C.
January 6, 2025: Counts of the electors from the states arrive in Washington to be counted in a joint session of Congress. The candidate who receives at least 270 votes will be elected President. The session is presided over by Vice President and Senate President Kamala Harris.

January 20, 2025: This shall be Inauguration Day, where a new President is sworn into office. The event shall include speaking to the nation, the signing of preliminary orders, and meetings with outgoing President Biden, who finally hands over power.
