US Election 2024: Trump Takes Early Lead Over Harris in Tight Race - Can the Battlegrounds Swing?
Early results flowing out from the 2024 U.S. presidential elections are showing a rather competing affair as Donald Trump and Kamala Harris vie to have the top throne of winner. Ballots are going out for counting in critical states, and so far Trump holds the lead with above 190 electoral votes, against count 112 of Harris.
Key Battleground States and Early Vote Counts Georgia
As of now, he is also leading in Georgia with 52.5% or 1,928,393 votes so far, while Harris takes 46.9% or 1,719,963 votes. Georgia has 16 electoral votes, which makes this a pretty influential factor for Trump in the final outcome. However, once again, only the remaining votes can be decisive.
Texas
In Texas, too, Trump is ahead, with 3,890,132 votes, which translate to 53.5 percent, while Harris garnered 3,287,696 votes, or 45.3 percent, at 56 percent of the votes tallied. Texas has 40 electoral votes and represents one of the biggest spoils on the electoral map. If counting continues that way, with his current advantage, Trump finds himself best placed.
New Hampshire
Harris is narrowly ahead in New Hampshire, with 54.5% of counted votes at 156,263 for her to Trump's 44.5% at 127,639. The close swing state brings four electoral college votes, and thus far, with only 35% of the vote counted, Harris maintains her slim lead, so that this is an especially close fight.
Virginia
The Virginia contest remains neck and neck. Trump is at 49.8% (1,173,484 votes), while Harris follows at 48.5% (1,141,711 votes). With close to half of the votes counted, the fate of Virginia's 13 electoral votes remains uncertain, keeping the tension, as each candidate fights for an edge.
North Carolina
Trump has the early lead with North Carolina at 51.9% of votes cast (1,228,448 votes), but Harris is a close contender with 47.1% (1,115,048 votes). In that swing state that has16 electoral votes, at this time, 40%, counted Trump still holds a teeny-weeny, teeny-weeniest of a lead in a very important battleground.
Dominant Factors in the Campaign
Issues at the core of voter preferences are central to this election season, like Trump's legal woes tied to the 2020 election and Georgia passing a tight abortion ban. These topics are rolling up into voters' thoughts in different ways and may be driving or swinging between undecided votes or getting people off the bench for more people in one form or another.
Current Electoral Vote Tally
So far, Trump is leading in several battleground states that give him the upper hand with more than 190 electoral votes. Harris has taken 112. Many key states are still up for grabs, and it all will come down to vote counts that could take days to finalize, especially those states that have high mail-in or absentee ballot counts.
What's Next
With the stakes high and health care, immigration, and the economy at the top of the list of important issues, both candidates enjoy significant support. Tight races in Virginia and North Carolina underscore the intense competition for the White House, with the nation holding its collective breath as results unfold. Will Trump hold his lead or will Harris close the gap and take the presidency?.
