2025 Citroen C5 Aircross Debuts With EV, Hybrid Powertrain Options
Citroen debuts the 2025 C5 Aircross with bold new design, EV & hybrid options, and a lounge-style interior. Know full specs, range, and features.
In a significant milestone in Stellantis' electrification strategy, Citroen has formally announced the 2025 C5 Aircross for the European market. And no, it's not just a mid-cycle refresh. It's a fresh start from top to bottom — design, platform, drivetrain — that reinforces the brand's future-oriented mind set.
First seen in concept guise at the 2023 Munich Motor Show, the production model remains surprisingly faithful to that show car, particularly in visual identity and cabin philosophy.
Here's what's new, what's under the bonnet, and why this is one of Citroen's most ambitious crossovers to date.
Based on Stellantis' STLA Medium Platform
The 2025 C5 Aircross is now underpinned by Stellantis' STLA Medium architecture, shared with future-proof EVs in the group. The SUV is now officially Citroen's flagship model, above the Ami, C3, and C4 in the brand's new lineup.
In design terms, it takes the boxy-but-even proportions of its predecessor and adds a dose of sophistication. The slim LED light elements, hulking body cladding, and square-tailed tailgate lend the car a chunkier and higher-quality road presence.

Inside: Welcome to the C-Zen Lounge
- One of the most impressive features of the new car is the cabin — Citroen has dubbed it the C-Zen Lounge. And quite honestly, the name fits.
- Soft-touch materials in layered textures
- Gigantic portrait-format touchscreen infotainment system (largest on a Stellantis vehicle ever)
- 10-inch digital driver display, ambient lighting, and a 30% bigger HUD
- Hey Citroen voice assistant integration, now driven by ChatGPT AI
- Front powered seats, rear reclining seats, and heaps of legroom due to the longer wheelbase
Not like a cockpit anymore — it feels more like a minimalist living room on wheels.
Bigger, Smarter, Roomier
At 4,652 mm long, the new C5 Aircross is much longer, with a 600 mm longer wheelbase. That means:
- 651L boot space with the second row in place
- Up to 1,668L cargo space with the seats down
- This level of space holds its own against bigger SUVs, but still maintains the comfort-centric philosophy Citroen is famous for.
EV Options: Two Batteries, Up to 679 km Range
For the first time ever, the C5 Aircross is completely electric. It's not simply a compliance gesture — it's a statement.
- Base EV: 73 kWh battery | 520 km WLTP range
- Extended Range EV: 97 kWh battery | 679 km range
- Motor Output: 207 bhp or 227 bhp | FWD only
Citroen has not spoken about AWD so far, something that will likely disappoint some adventure-seekers. But the range and quality will be enough for most city and suburban commuters.
Hybrid Models: Mild & Plug-in Power
The hybrid range is also complete:
- Mild Hybrid: 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol + 0.93 kWh battery
- Plug-in Hybrid: 1.6L 4-cylinder petrol + 21 kWh battery
- PHEV Output: 193 bhp + 85 km electric-only range
This has something for everyone — the city commuter, the environmentally friendly family, and those who aren't quite ready to go all EV.
Last Thoughts: Citroen's Best Ever?
In all honesty, Citroen's earlier versions of the C5 Aircross were always being overshadowed in a busy SUV market. But the 2025 C5 Aircross? It's wiser, more fashionable, and finally hears the design language of the future.
With hybrid and electric drivetrains, premium interior updates, and large-scale practicality, this may be the international success Citroen has been targeting — if pricing and availability remain competitive.
Here's hoping it delivers on its ambitious promise when it appears in dealerships later this year.
