Government Launches 'Sanchaar Saathi' App to Combat Cyber Fraud and Fake Calls

In a move aimed at making the mobile device a safer tool against cyber fraud for users, the Government of India has come out with an innovative application named 'Sanchaar Saathi'. After the huge success of TRAI DND 3.0, which provided people with an interface to block unwanted calls and messages, DoT is now seeking to address the full gamut of issues surrounding cyber fraud, fake calls, and mobile security generally through this initiative.

Introduction of 'Sanchaar Saathi'

The 'Sanchaar Saathi' app was launched by the Union Minister for Communications and Development, Jyotiraditya Sindhia, in a special program. The app is created to empower mobile users by offering a hassle-free platform to file cybercrimes and solve numerous mobile-related issues directly from the smartphone.

Why 'Sanchaar Saathi' is Unique

The main motive of the 'Sanchaar Saathi' app is to protect and aware smartphone users. Earlier, in 2023, the government had launched the Sanchaar Saathi Portal, which allowed users to report fake calls and messages, block IMEI numbers of lost devices, and get information about mobile numbers associated with Aadhaar cards. The new app version brings all these functionalities into a user-friendly mobile interface, making it an indispensable tool for users to protect themselves against various cyber threats.

Five Key Benefits of 'Sanchaar Saathi'

Complaint Registration for Cyber Fraud: Users can easily file complaints regarding fake calls, fraudulent messages, or any other cybercrimes within minutes. This immediate action capability helps in quick mitigation of potential threats.

IMEI Number Blocking: In case a mobile device is lost, the user can block the IMEI number of the device through the application. This will prevent the lost phone from being misused, and the user's personal information will be safe.

Aadhaar-Linked Mobile Number Verification: This app allows a user to know which mobile numbers are linked to his Aadhaar card. This will increase transparency and help users track unauthorized linkages that may cause privacy breaches.

Protection from Unknown Calls and Messages: 'Sanchaar Saathi' effectively addresses issues related to unknown calls and messages, providing users with tools to block and report such unwanted communications, thereby reducing the risk of falling victim to scams.

The application is easy to use and, therefore, user-friendly. It will ensure mass adoption because of its user-friendliness. 'Sanchaar Saathi' thus simplifies reporting and blocking threats and significantly boosts mobile security for all users.

Increasing User Safety and Awareness

The launch of 'Sanchaar Saathi' reflects the government's commitment to a safe digital environment. The app, which brings together essential security features in one place, protects users from immediate threats but also educates them on best practices in mobile security.

Building on Previous Initiatives

'Sanchaar Saathi' is an extension of the TRAI DND 3.0 app, which was primarily used to block unwanted communications. The new app extends its scope to more complex cyber issues, which are changing in nature and require comprehensive solutions.
