Samsung to Equip Galaxy Z Flip 7 with Exynos 2500, Fold 7 to Retain Snapdragon

Samsung appears to be returning to its initial strategy for its 2025 foldable lineup, as a new report suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will feature Samsung’s own Exynos 2500 chipset, while the more premium Galaxy Z Fold 7 will continue using a Snapdragon processor.

Cost and Production Challenges Influence Chipset Choice

Initially, there was speculation that Samsung would equip the Flip 7 with the Exynos 2500, marking a significant shift from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series. However, concerns about the production yield of the Exynos chip had cast doubt on that plan, prompting reports of a switch back to Snapdragon.

Now, according to The Chosun Daily, Samsung is moving forward with its original approach. The decision reportedly hinges on cost, as the price of Snapdragon chips has surged by over 20%. Given the more affordable pricing structure of the Flip 7, Samsung has opted for the in-house solution despite ongoing production issues.

Exynos 2500 Yields Still Below Ideal Threshold

While Samsung has made improvements, the report notes that Exynos 2500’s yield is still subpar—hovering between 20% to 40%, far below Samsung’s target of 60% for stable mass production. Despite this, the rising cost of Snapdragon chips makes it challenging for the Flip 7’s pricing to accommodate Qualcomm’s hardware.

In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will retain a Snapdragon processor, suggesting that the flagship device’s higher price point can absorb the additional chipset cost.

Expected July Launch for Galaxy Foldables

Samsung is expected to officially unveil both the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 in July 2025, possibly alongside the rollout of One UI 8 based on Android 16.
