TRAI’s New OTP Rule 2024: No More Fake Messages for Jio, Airtel Users!

Starting December 11, 2024, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will implement a new rule aimed at curbing fraudulent and unauthorized messages. If you are a user of Jio, Airtel, Vi, or BSNL, this update is crucial for you as it promises to eliminate a major concern regarding fake messages and phishing scams.

Why the New Rule?

TRAI's initiative, known as the "Message Traceability Rule," is designed to enhance the transparency and security of SMS communications. This regulation will block messages that do not adhere to specific number series pre-approved by telecom operators. As a result, it will become easier to identify and prevent spam messages and phishing attempts.

Initially set to launch on December 1, 2024, the rule's implementation was postponed to December 11 to allow telecom operators and organizations more time to update their systems and comply with the new guidelines. TRAI has directed telemarketers and institutions to ensure their number series are aligned with the updated requirements.
