UPI Lite to Introduce Auto Top-Up Feature from October 31

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is enhancing its UPI Lite feature with an auto top-up option, effective October 31. This new functionality aims to streamline small-value transactions by automatically replenishing funds in UPI Lite accounts.

UPI Lite, designed for efficient handling of low-value payments, will now support auto top-up up to ₹2,000. Users can utilize this feature to maintain a balance of up to ₹2,000, with automatic replenishment from their linked bank accounts when the balance falls below the specified amount. This eliminates the need for manual top-ups and ensures uninterrupted transaction capability.

Previously, UPI Lite allowed for seamless payments up to ₹500 without requiring a PIN or connecting to core banking systems. The introduction of auto top-up aims to further simplify and enhance user experience by automating the funding process.

The new feature will be available on UPI Lite accounts starting October 31, as announced in an NPCI circular issued on August 27.
