Atishi Responds to Ramesh Bidhuri’s Remarks, Gets Emotional Over Comments About Her Father
Delhi CM Atishi responds emotionally to Ramesh Bidhuri’s derogatory remarks about her and her father, calling for dignified politics ahead of the Delhi assembly elections.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi became emotional during a press conference on Monday as she addressed BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s controversial remarks targeting her and her father. Atishi defended her father, a retired teacher, and expressed disappointment over the degrading level of political discourse.
Atishi’s Emotional Statement
"My father has been a teacher all his life, educating thousands of underprivileged children in Delhi. He is now 80 years old, frail, and unable to walk without assistance. It’s shocking that for the sake of elections, someone would stoop so low as to insult an elderly man."
She further criticized Bidhuri, adding,
"I never imagined that politics in this country could sink to such a level. Instead of resorting to personal attacks, he should seek votes based on his work as a ten-year MP from South Delhi."
What Did Ramesh Bidhuri Say?
During a BJP rally in Rohini, Bidhuri referred to Atishi as a "proxy CM" and mocked her for changing her last name from Marlena to Singh. He also made claims that Atishi's parents supported clemency for Afzal Guru, a convict in the 2001 Parliament attack, accusing them of filing a mercy plea.
Political Context
Delhi is gearing up for a triangular contest in the upcoming assembly elections:
AAP aims to retain its government.
BJP hopes to end its 25-year-long absence from power in Delhi.
Congress seeks to regain lost ground after its decline since the Sheila Dikshit era.
The escalating war of words reflects the high stakes, with leaders from all parties launching sharp attacks on opponents to sway voters.
