Bengaluru police again get their hands full as they dig up yet another bomb scare hoax. Bombs Scare Strikes Bishop Cotton Again 2.0!
BENGALURU – It was the second bomb threat in two months for Bishop Cotton School in central Bengaluru, when an email threatening a bomb planted on school premises set to detonate around 3:30 pm was received on Thursday. The email was sent early in the day at 9 am, but the school authorities came to know of it only by 3 pm, immediately notifying the police.
The Cubbon Park police acted very fast by calling a full combing operation with canine and bomb disposal squads, and all students and staff were evacuated. The premises were searched but nothing explosive was found, and it turned out to be a hoax after a thorough check.
In the recent times, false bomb threats have seen an unprecedented spurt in Bengaluru. Bishop Cotton was one of the 70 schools to receive hoax threats in December 2023, sending alarm bells ringing among parents and school administrations. In October, three colleges in South Bengaluru had to face hoax bomb threats when a mail purportedly sent from the account of Tamil Nadu BJP leader and former MLA S Ve Shekher, made rounds. After this threat, Bengaluru police detained Dipanjan Mitra from Darjeeling in connection with those emails.
The police have registered an FIR with regard to the threat on Thursday and are inquiring to figure out the motives behind sending the threat. This repeat incidence at Bishop Cotton and other institutions calls for a long-term challenge for law enforcers as hoax threats cause rampage and the disruption in academic schedules. The authorities in Bengaluru are now considering a stricter protocol to deal with interfering threats, with a hope for safety and continuity for educational institutions in the city.
