Rapido Rider Overcharges ₹1,000 in Chenna: Bike-taxi service Rapido recently faced the brunt of overcharging when a customer alleged he was fleeced by an executive in Chennai. The episode came to light when Ashok Raj Rajendran, founder and CEO of AJ Skill Development Academy, took to LinkedIn sharing his experience, which prompted Rapido to crack the whip.
Overcharging Incident: ₹1,000 for a 21-Kilometer Ride
He has mentioned booking a Rapido ride from Madras Central Railway Station to Thoraipakkam, which is around 21 kilometers. When booking the ride through the Rapido app, the fare showed around ₹350. He claims that the rider on his destination demanded ₹1,000. He settled on paying ₹800 so that he could get down, more than double the estimated amount. The unusual surcharge raised doubts, so he took to Rapido's customer support.
Rapido Responds to Viral Complaint
In his post on LinkedIn, Rajendran said that the customer service of Rapido wasn't responding well to this issue. But the issue got trending so fast it caught the attention of the company. They later contacted Rajendran, apologising and saying strict action has been taken against the person who did it. Further, Rapido also refund the excess amount charged.
After the post by Rajendran, many people shared their experience of the same with other ride-hailing service providers. In this way, the awareness of the bigger issue spread across platforms.
