Shooting of Notorious Gangster 'Sissing Raja' Linked to Ongoing Investigations, Police Official Reveals

CHENNAI — Notorious gangster Sissing Raja was shot dead in an encounter early this morning in Chennai, sparking widespread attention and speculation. Deputy Commissioner of Police C.P. Chakravarthy addressed the media to clarify the circumstances surrounding the encounter and its implications.

The encounter took place near Akkarai, where police reported that Sissing Raja was wanted in connection with multiple criminal cases, including six murders. Chakravarthy emphasized that, following investigations, there was no evidence linking Sissing Raja to the recent Armstrong murder case.

According to police reports, Sissing Raja was apprehended in the Rajampet area near Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh, and subsequently transferred to the Velachery police station. During questioning about how he obtained a firearm, Sissing Raja allegedly indicated he would show them the location of the weapon. After visiting two sites without success, he led them to a third location where a country-made gun was found.

During the encounter, Sissing Raja reportedly fired at two inspectors accompanying him, narrowly missing one. In response, an inspector fired back, injuring Sissing Raja, who later succumbed to his wounds at the hospital.

Chakravarthy detailed that Sissing Raja had a substantial criminal history, with 39 cases against him and was declared a wanted criminal by a magistrate three months ago. He had been evading law enforcement and had multiple pending warrants.

The police official clarified, “We have found no connection between Sissing Raja and the Armstrong murder case in our investigations. Our focus was on apprehending him within the Velachery jurisdiction, which led to this encounter.”
