Chennai, August 30 – Tamil Nadu has achieved a remarkable increase in revenue, with an additional ₹4,000 crore collected this year compared to the previous year, announced P. Murthy, the state's Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration. This surge is attributed to the effective measures implemented by the Commercial Taxes Department under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Speaking to reporters in Madurai, Minister Murthy highlighted the success of various initiatives aimed at enhancing the state's tax collection. The department's efforts have included simplifying tax procedures, implementing administrative reforms, and adopting advanced digital tools. The "Samadhan Scheme," introduced to assist traders, has also played a significant role in this revenue boost.

Minister Murthy noted that the department has set an ambitious revenue target of ₹1.42 lakh crore for the Commercial Taxes Department and ₹23,000 crore for the Registration Department for the current fiscal year. So far, the department has exceeded expectations, collecting ₹4,000 crore more than the same period last year.

In a bid to curb tax evasion, the department has taken strong actions against those attempting to defraud the system. This includes identifying individuals and businesses involved in tax evasion and recommending the cancellation of their GST numbers to the central government. Minister Murthy emphasized that the authority to permanently cancel GST numbers rests with the central government, but the state's efforts to detect and report fraudulent activities have been intensified.

"We have initiated extensive field inspections to identify those who have obtained GST numbers without conducting any business. The Tamil Nadu government remains committed to supporting legitimate businesses while taking strict action against those who engage in tax evasion," said Minister Murthy.

When asked about rumors regarding Udhayanidhi Stalin being named the Deputy Chief Minister, Minister Murthy responded cryptically, "Expect an announcement soon," without denying the speculation, fueling further discussion on the matter.

The Commercial Taxes Department's recent achievements reflect the state's focus on financial accountability and transparency, positioning Tamil Nadu as a leader in revenue generation and governance.
