Delhi Metro Fare Update: No Hike in Delhi, But This Metro Sees a 50% Increase

Delhi Metro Fare Update: Recent social media posts claimed that Delhi Metro fares were set to rise by 50%, causing concern among daily commuters. However, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has clarified that these claims are false. Meanwhile, in another Indian city, metro fares have actually increased.

Which Metro Has Increased Fares by 50%?

The metro fare hike has not affected Delhi, but Bengaluru Metro fares have seen a significant increase. As of February 8, 2024, fares in Bengaluru Metro have risen by nearly 50%, with a ₹60 ticket now costing ₹90.

Delhi Metro's Official Statement on Fare Hike Rumors

DMRC's Chief Executive Director, Anuj Dayal, confirmed that there is no fare hike in Delhi Metro.
DMRC clarified on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that any fare changes can only be implemented by a Fare Fixation Committee (FFC), which is appointed by the government.
As of now, no such committee has been formed, so Delhi Metro fares remain unchanged.

Why Did the Rumors of a Fare Hike Spread?

Several social media posts recently falsely claimed that Delhi Metro fares would increase by 50%, leading to panic among commuters. However, DMRC quickly dismissed these claims, reassuring passengers that there was no immediate fare hike planned.

How Are Delhi Metro Fares Decided?

Fare changes are only made on the recommendation of the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC).
This independent committee is appointed by the government to review and suggest changes in metro fares.
Since no new committee has been formed, Delhi Metro fares will remain the same for now.
