Heavy monsoon showers have drenched Delhi-NCR, bringing much-needed relief from humid conditions but also causing widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for the region, warning that rainfall is likely to continue over the next three days as an active monsoon system remains over north India.

IMD Forecasts More Rain Ahead

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Delhi and adjoining parts of the National Capital Region, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph. In some areas, rainfall could be intense enough to cause local flooding and reduced visibility.

According to the forecast, intermittent rain is expected to persist over the next few days, with authorities advising residents to remain cautious, especially during peak commuting hours.

Waterlogging and Traffic Chaos

Several parts of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad witnessed severe waterlogging after overnight rain. Key roads experienced long traffic jams, while low-lying areas reported flooding that slowed vehicular movement and disrupted public transport. Fallen trees and waterlogged underpasses added to commuters' problems across the NCR.

Flight and Travel Advisories Issued

The adverse weather has also affected air travel. Major airlines, including Air India, IndiGo, and Akasa Air, have issued advisories asking passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and to allow extra travel time due to traffic delays caused by heavy rain.

Safety Measures for Residents

Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. People living in low-lying areas have been advised to stay alert for water accumulation, while motorists are encouraged to avoid flooded roads and underpasses.

Emergency services remain on standby as civic agencies continue efforts to clear waterlogged stretches and ensure smooth traffic movement across the capital.

Monsoon Active Across North India

The latest spell of rain is part of an active southwest monsoon that has now covered the entire country. Weather officials expect monsoon conditions to remain favourable over north India, bringing further showers to Delhi-NCR and neighbouring states over the coming days.
