Delhi’s 'Mahila Samman Yojna' Under Investigation: Lt. Governor Orders Probe into AAP Initiative

Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, political temperatures are rising as the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) recently announced 'Mahila Samman Yojna' faces scrutiny. The scheme, aimed at providing ₹2,100 monthly financial aid to women, is now under investigation following orders from Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG).
Lt. Governor's Concerns
The LG has raised questions about the basis of the current registration process for the scheme and has asked the divisional commissioners in Delhi to check if the process complies with the regulations. A report is awaited to clear the legality and implementation mechanisms of the initiative.
The Women and Child Development Department sounded an alarm
The Women and Child Development Department has issued advertisements saying that no such scheme has been officially notified. The department warned the public against sharing personal information and accused the ongoing registrations of misleading citizens.
Response of AAP
The scheme is being strongly defended by AAP which has argued that the BJP wants to bring the movement of the initiative to an abrupt halt, as this was gaining too much acceptance lately. Over 22 lakh women have registered themselves for this 'Mahila Samman Yojna' until date, as per reports.
What is 'Mahila Samman Yojna'?
The AAP has promised to give ₹1,000 per month financial assistance to all the eligible women above 18 years of age if it wins the 2025 assembly elections. This will go up to ₹2,100 in subsequent phases, it is said.
Political Connotations
While the BJP alleges that AAP is playing a political gimmick through the scheme, AAP says that the BJP's opposition shows their disregard for the welfare of women.
