Delhi: Police Crackdown on Illegal Bangladeshi-Rohingyas, Document Verification Underway in Shaheen Bagh
The Delhi Police launched a special drive against the illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants in the city. Verification of documents is going on in Kalindi Kunj, Shaheen Bagh, and Seemapuri. So far, 32 people have been identified as illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Seemapuri, and some even have bogus Aadhaar cards.
Police initiative and public resistance
The exercise falls under a two-month campaign undertaken by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to identify and initiate action against illegal immigrants. The verification process is being taken forward in the slum clusters of different areas-including Yamuna Bazaar, Bawana, Jahangirpuri, and Kalindi Kunj. However, many residents resist the checks and said they have been in Delhi since 35-40 years.
AAP Opposition
The AAP has linked the police operation to polls, alleging that the BJP is using it as a political tool. Former deputy CM Manish Sisodia accused the BJP of earlier facilitating the settlement of Rohingyas and now staging a "drama" for electoral gains.
