Delhi Police Issues Traffic Advisory for October Half Marathon Routes
New Delhi: In anticipation of the Delhi Half Marathon set to take place on October 20, 2024, from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the Delhi Police has issued an advisory for traffic management. With over 35,000 participants expected, several roads in the capital will face diversions and restrictions to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The Half Marathon will kick off at 4:45 AM from the stadium, with routes covering major roads like Bhisham Pitamaha Marg, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, and Kartavyapath. Commuters are advised to avoid these areas during the event as traffic diversions will be in place to facilitate the participants and manage crowd control.
The event will feature two major race categories:
Half Marathon Open & Police Cup (5:00 AM start) – Following a route from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the participants will traverse Bhisham Pitamaha Marg, Lodhi Road, Mathura Road, and Kartavyapath before circling back to the stadium.
Elite Athlete Half Marathon (6:50 AM start) – This category will follow a similar route with additional U-turn points along India Gate and C-Hexagon.
Traffic Guidelines
The Delhi Police has urged citizens to use alternate routes and avoid the restricted zones on the day of the marathon. Specific diversion points will be set up, and law enforcement will be on-site to assist commuters and manage traffic flow.
