In a heartbreaking turn of events on Diwali night, a family celebration turned deadly in Delhi’s Bihari Colony, Shahdara, as two men—Akash Sharma, also known as Chhotu, and his nephew Rishabh Sharma—were fatally shot in their own home. The incident, allegedly triggered by a longstanding family dispute, has spread panic in the neighborhood, and police are actively working to apprehend the attackers.
Diwali Festivities Shattered by Violence
The tragic event unfolded around 8 p.m. while the family was joyfully preparing for Diwali. According to Akash’s mother, two men arrived at their home on a scooter with a parcel of sweets as a ruse to gain entry. One of the assailants, known as Lakshya, used the sweets to lure Akash’s mother, who took the package from the roof using a bucket. Moments later, the men entered the house, approached Akash, touched his feet in a deceptive gesture of respect, and then began firing on him and his family. Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene, leaving Akash, Rishabh, and Krish gravely injured.

A Grieving Mother Reveals Long-standing Family Rivalry
According to Akash’s mother, the attack was rooted in a long-running property dispute with family members. She accuses suspects Bunty and Puneet of orchestrating the attack to settle ongoing disagreements over the family’s property. She further alleged that this was not the first time her family had been targeted; her late husband was reportedly killed under similar circumstances years ago.
“They’ve done this before,” she said tearfully, recalling past incidents where her family had suffered due to the feud. She noted that the accused had been seen loitering around the neighborhood for days, suggesting the attack was premeditated.

After hearing the gunshots, neighbors rushed the victims to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced both Akash and Rishabh dead on arrival. Krish, who sustained serious injuries, is still being treated. According to eyewitness accounts and initial police findings, the attack appears to have been motivated by personal revenge stemming from the family feud.
Police Investigation Focused on Family Feud Motive
Responding to a PCR call around 8:30 p.m., police arrived at the scene to find bloodstains and evidence of a violent confrontation. Witnesses stated that the assailants had touched Akash’s feet before opening fire, a chilling tactic meant to disarm the victims before the ambush. The police have registered a case and are actively searching for the suspects. Investigators are gathering statements from family members and other witnesses to reconstruct the events and locate the attackers.
A Sobering Reminder of Escalating Family Disputes
This Diwali tragedy in Shahdara serves as a grim reminder of how unresolved family feuds can escalate into violence. The double murder cast a shadow over what was meant to be a joyous celebration, emphasizing the importance of peaceful conflict resolution to prevent similar incidents in the future. As the investigation unfolds, the hope is that justice will bring some solace to a family torn apart by a longstanding dispute.
