ABVP Condemns Violence and Calls for Action!

In a shocking turn of events, the Diwali celebration at Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi faced violent disruptions from external elements, according to a statement from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The festivities, which were meant to be a joyful occasion, were marred by incidents of violence that have left the student community in distress.

A Peaceful Celebration Turned Chaotic

On Tuesday evening, as students joyfully celebrated Diwali, chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai,” the atmosphere was lively and harmonious. However, around 8 PM, chaos erupted when external religious extremists and anti-social elements entered the venue. They began shouting provocative slogans such as "Free Palestine" and vandalized the event by destroying lamps and erasing colorful rangolis made by the students.

Unacceptable Behavior and Calls for Accountability

The ABVP strongly condemned these actions, highlighting the inappropriate behavior of these outsiders, which included harassment of female students and physical altercations with those participating in the celebration. The university administration reportedly stood by as the violence unfolded, raising questions about their response to such disturbances.

In a statement, the ABVP questioned whether celebrating Diwali and expressing patriotic sentiments is considered a crime in a central university in India. They demanded that the university administration and Delhi police take immediate action against those responsible for the violence, stating, "The campus is for all students, and anti-national slogans will not be tolerated."

Demand for Security and Peace

The incident has sparked outrage within the student community, and calls for security measures to protect peaceful celebrations are growing louder. As the university grapples with this unfortunate situation, the ABVP’s statement emphasizes the need for a unified stand against extremism and a commitment to ensuring a safe environment for all students.
