Why are farmers marching from Noida to Delhi today? The full traffic advisory and route restrictions explained

Farmers will march from Noida to Delhi today, demanding compensation and other benefits under the new agricultural laws. The protest, led by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP), is expected to bring together farmers from 20 districts, including Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Agra. The march will begin at 12 pm from Mahamaya Flyover and will head towards Delhi. The farmers will walk on foot and travel on tractors.

Their first demand is a compensation raise, under the old law for land acquisition. For them, it's specifically to hike the compensation by 64.7% and assign 10% of plots through this law. They are also demanding four times the market rate compensation and 20 percent share of plots for lands acquired after January 1, 2014. They are also demanding job and rehabilitation benefits for children of landless farmers and proper implementation of the High Power Committee's recommendations for settlement in populous areas.

As the protest intensifies, the authorities have placed several barriers at the main entry points such as Chilla, DND Border, and Mahamaya Flyover to control the security and traffic. Police Commissioner Shivhari Meena confirmed that more police forces would be deployed to monitor the situation. In response to the march, several routes have been diverted to avoid congestion.

The key traffic diversions include:

Chilla Border to Greater Noida: This will be diverted from the flyover of Sector 14A
DND Border to Delhi: This will be redirected from the Filmcity flyover in Sector 18
Kalindi Border: Through Mahamaya flyover in Sector 37.

For commuters coming from Greater Noida to Delhi, the Kalindi Kunj and Hajipur underpass routes will be open. Along with these, there are multiple other diversions for good vehicles to reduce traffic here.

Authorities have asked commuters to avoid road travel and make use of the Metro services to avoid traffic congestion. A dedicated helpline at 9971009001 has been set up to provide traffic updates and support to those traveling through Noida.

This is part of a wider movement by various farmer groups, such as the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukt Kisan Morcha, which have voiced strong criticism of the government's agricultural reforms and the lack of adequate support for farmers. The heavy security and many roadblocks will be in place; hence, commuters are advised to make careful plans for their journeys.
