Hyderabad, Telangana: A retired government employee from Hyderabad fell victim to a major scam after seeking companionship through an online escort service. The elderly man, who recently retired from a central government job, turned to social media to alleviate his loneliness. However, what he thought would provide solace instead led to a devastating loss of ₹5 lakh, shaking his trust in the online world.

Falling into the Trap of a Fake Escort Service

According to the police, the elderly man began searching for escort services on Google in the first week of July. During his search, he came across an agency called "Deepusassy Service." The agency provided him with photos and a list of escorts via WhatsApp. After initial contact, the agency requested a starting fee of ₹1,500, which he transferred to an account under the name Rakesh Ahari.

After making the payment, the man waited for the service, but nothing materialized. The agency kept him engaged over the phone, stringing him along day after day until the end of July. The agency then asked him to transfer additional funds as a security deposit to an account under the name Kishan Lal Gameti. Believing the agency's assurances that the money would be refunded once the service was complete, the man continued to make payments in seven installments.

A Continuous Cycle of Deception

The retired man remained in contact with the agency, which persuaded him to make further payments under the guise of service charges, claiming these were also refundable. Despite repeated assurances, the agency kept demanding more money, exploiting the man's trust. Over time, he transferred a total of ₹5 lakh to the scamsters.

Eventually, the man grew frustrated with the constant demands for money and refused to pay any more. He requested the agency to cancel the service and return his money. However, instead of refunding his money, the agency blocked him on WhatsApp, leaving him with no means of communication.

Filing a Police Complaint

Realizing he had been scammed, the man immediately filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Wing. Based on his complaint, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to track down the fraudsters.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with online services and the importance of exercising caution, especially when dealing with unknown entities on the internet. The police have urged citizens to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to prevent falling prey to such scams.
