Mumbai: 3 Killed, 22 Injured As BEST Bus Goes Out Of Control Near Kurla Railway Station

Mumbai, December 10, 2024: A BEST bus accident, which occurred on route 332, killed three and injured 22 late on Monday night. The BEST bus, which was coming from Kurla Railway Station to Andheri, reportedly suffered a brake failure and rammed into pedestrians and multiple vehicles in a stretch of over 100 meters.
The accident took place at the L Ward of BMC in Kurla. The bus stopped after crashing into an RCC column on Buddha Colony, a local residential area.
Casualties and Rescue Operations
Emergency services evacuated three killed and 22 injured persons, including a teenager, to Bhabha Hospital. Many of the injured are said to be serious, according to officials.
Scale of Destruction
The crash left a trail of destruction, damaging vehicles, shattering bus windows, and causing panic among onlookers. The bus also hit a police vehicle during the incident. Witnesses reported that locals assaulted the bus driver before authorities detained him for questioning.
Eyewitness Accounts
A local resident, Zeeshan Ansari said, "The bus was being driven rashly. It dashed into pedestrians, autorickshaws, and cars before it stopped in Buddha Colony. Many injured people were lying in pools of blood.
Another eyewitness, Zaid Ahmed, said, "I was leaving for the railway station when I heard a big bang. I could see dead bodies and people were being taken to hospital. My friends and I managed to rescue people who were stuck in vehicles.
Investigation
The 12-metre electric bus that was manufactured by Olectra Greentech and on lease with BEST raises many questions about the maintenance standards. They suspect a brake failure and said an inquiry would be thorough.
