Brazilian Woman Arrested at Mumbai Airport for Smuggling 124 Cocaine Capsules Worth ₹9.73 Crore: DRI Busts Major Drug Trafficking Attempt

In a significant drug bust, a Brazilian woman was arrested at Mumbai International Airport for attempting to smuggle 124 cocaine-filled capsules into India. According to officials, the woman had ingested the capsules before landing in Mumbai on Wednesday. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended her on charges of drug trafficking.

Cocaine Worth ₹9.73 Crore Seized

Officials revealed that the 124 cocaine capsules were intended for smuggling into India. The cocaine had an estimated market value of ₹9.73 crore. Authorities are currently investigating the involvement of other members of the international drug syndicate linked to the case.

Woman Confesses to Crime

An officer from the Mumbai Zonal Unit of DRI stated that they received a tip-off after the woman arrived from São Paulo, Brazil. The officials stopped her for questioning based on the information.

During interrogation, the woman confessed to having swallowed the cocaine capsules to smuggle them into India. She was immediately presented before a magistrate. Due to the potential health risks posed by ingesting the capsules, she was admitted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for medical supervision.

Previous Arrests in June

According to the officials, the woman ingested 973 grams of cocaine packed into 124 capsules in a bid to destroy the evidence and avoid arrest. The DRI has been taking stringent actions to prevent the illegal smuggling of drugs into the country and is conducting operations to track down members of drug syndicates.

In a similar case, the DRI Mumbai Zonal Unit arrested another individual at Mumbai Airport in July, seizing 5.34 kilograms of drugs worth approximately ₹5 crore.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the international drug network, with further arrests expected in the coming days.
