Pune Metro Achieves Milestone Daily Ridership Exceeds One Lakh in July

Pune Metro reached a significant milestone in July, surpassing the one-lakh mark in daily passenger count. Since the inauguration of the Ruby Hall Clinic Metro Station to Ramwadi Metro Station route on March 6, 2024, the number of passengers using the Metro service has been steadily rising.

From July 1 to July 31, 2024, a total of 31,20,293 passengers used the Pune Metro service, resulting in an impressive average daily passenger count of 1,06,101. During this period, Pune Metro generated substantial revenue amounting to Rs. 4,98,04,817. The ridership data shows that 1,070,655 passengers traveled on the Purple Line (PCMC Metro station to District Court Metro station), while the Aqua Line (Vanaz Metro station to Ramwadi Metro station) recorded a higher footfall with 2,049,638 passengers.

A notable observation is the higher number of passengers traveling on the Aqua Line compared to the Purple Line, indicating a growing preference for the Vanaz to Ramwadi route among commuters.

The introduction of the One Pune Card by Pune Metro has received a positive reception from passengers. To date, 53,025 cards have been sold, including 11,646 student cards. The Pune Metro Vidyarthi Pass, which offers a 30% discount on fares and is valid every day, including weekends, has seen extensive use by students.

Currently, Pune Metro operates 24 stations, with the highest passenger numbers recorded at PCMC station (approximately 14,000 passengers per day), Ramwadi station (approximately 11,000 per day), Pune Railway Metro station (approximately 8,000 per day), Vanaz station (approximately 7,500 per day), and Nal Stop station (approximately 7,000 per day). The District Court Interchange Metro station, where passengers switch between the Purple and Aqua Lines, sees approximately 24,878 transfers daily.

To enhance connectivity, a feeder bus service has been launched on 13 routes in collaboration with Pune Metro and PMPML. This service is currently utilized by more than 10,000 passengers daily. Notably, over 400 passengers use the feeder bus service from Ramwadi station to the airport, and more than 1,000 passengers use the recently started service from Ramwadi Metro station to EON IT Park.

Pune Metro and PMPML are actively working to expand the feeder bus services to additional routes to accommodate growing demand.

The Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi Metro Station route, which opened on March 6, 2024, has played a crucial role in boosting ridership. Prior to this route's inauguration, the daily passenger count was around 55,000. In just three months, the number of passengers has more than doubled, surpassing 100,000 daily.

The consistent increase in passenger numbers is a testament to the growing reliance on Pune Metro as a preferred mode of transportation. With ongoing efforts to enhance services and expand connectivity, Pune Metro is poised to continue its upward trajectory, contributing significantly to the city's public transport infrastructure.

Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, said, "The increase in passenger numbers for Pune Metro is very encouraging. The growing number of passengers indicates a strengthening public transport system. So far, 53,025 passengers have obtained One Pune Card, allowing them to travel on the metro independently. The feeder services from Ramwadi Metro Station to the airport and EON IT Park are receiving a positive response. PMPML and Maha Metro are working diligently to expand feeder services to more routes."
