CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old software engineer, Santosh Raju Petti, was fatally stabbed early Friday while attempting to stop a scuffle between three men and a waiter at an eatery in Jhalta Phata, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar rural. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. and stemmed from a dispute over payment for a bottle of soft drink.

Incident Details

Police reports indicate that the altercation began when three men forced the eatery staff to serve food after hours. As they were leaving, one of the suspects took a soft drink and became enraged when a waiter asked him to pay for it. The prime suspect retrieved a sharp-edged weapon from his car and began threatening the staff.

At this moment, Petti arrived at the eatery with his driver for some food and tea. Observing the suspects threatening the waiter, Petti intervened. Mistaking him for the eatery owner, the prime suspect stabbed him fatally.

Police Investigation and Suspect Details

The Chikalthana police quickly detained two of the suspects in Nashik district, aided by CCTV footage from the eatery. The third suspect, reportedly from the Begampura area of the city, remains at large.

Additional superintendent of police Sunil Lanjewar stated, “The investigation revealed that the suspects forced the eatery to open after hours and escalated the situation over the soft drink payment. The prime suspect’s anger turned lethal when Petti intervened to prevent harm to the eatery staff.”

Victim’s Background

Preliminary investigations revealed that Petti’s family hails from Hyderabad but has been residing in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where his father operates a dairy outlet. Petti’s family was in Hyderabad for a marriage ceremony at the time of the incident and rushed back to the city upon receiving the tragic news.
