India's coffee market is booming, driven by growing demand from international markets. In the first half of the financial year (April-September 2024), India exported coffee worth ₹7,771.88 crore, a significant increase from ₹4,956 crore during the same period last year. This surge represents a remarkable 55% growth in coffee exports, attributed primarily to heightened demand in the global market.

Rising Coffee Prices

With this increasing demand, coffee prices have also risen. Buyers are now paying an average of ₹352 per kilogram for Indian coffee, up from ₹259 last year. The prices for robusta coffee beans currently range from ₹233 to ₹235 per kilogram, while robusta coffee berries are priced between ₹385 and ₹400. Over the past six months, the price of coffee beans has risen by ₹53, and berries by ₹65.

Key Contributors to Production

Karnataka and Kerala remain the top coffee-producing states in India. Karnataka accounts for 70% of the country’s total coffee production, while Kerala contributes 20%, mainly from the Wayanad region. Tamil Nadu follows with 5.7% of the share. The total coffee production in India reached approximately 3.6 lakh tons in the last financial year, with a significant portion being exported, as domestic consumption remains relatively low.
