Stock Market Buzz: Muhurat Trading Kicks Off the Hindu New Year - Read Now

This evening, the Indian share market will be all set for a special event when it opens for an hour of special trading known as Muhurat trading. The annual ritual marks the beginning of the Hindu calendar year, specifically the Vikram Samvat, which is a lunisolar calendar 57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar. This Diwali marks the beginning of Samvat 2081, a time that holds special significance for investors.

What is Muhurat Trading?

The term "Muhurat" in the Hindu tradition denotes a good time. This is why Muhurat trading is so dear to Indian stock traders. It is an exclusive Indian stock market tradition that offers excellent opportunities for investors to initiate their financial journey. This year, on the National Stock Exchange, and the Bombay Stock Exchange will start Muhurat Trading at 6 PM on today. There will also be a pre-opening between 5:45 PM to 6 PM.

The normal hours of the market during the week will be absent on Friday from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM while the weekend is holidays in Saturday and Sunday.

Expected Bullish Sentiment

The market is poised to witness a positive trend before Diwali, but it did face a bit of a turbulent patch in October.
The Sensex, which measures the top 30 stocks from BSE, closed for the second straight session below 80,000 points after it experienced an extreme fall from its peak of over 85,000 points just last month.

Stocks to Watch During Muhurat Trading

Several stocks are in news today on Diwali. MCX is once again in the spotlight after the takeover of Praveena Rai as MD and CEO. Analogously, Reliance news has been in the highlights as the European Union gives its nod to the joint venture of Walt Disney Co for the entertainment arm, Jio. In addition to that, trading of the bonus shares issued by the Reliance will begin from today.

Earnings reports sway the market mood:

Earnings reports will be a big determinant of the market's sentiment too. The Narayana Hrudayalaya and Tata Investment Corporation earnings reports released after the market close Thursday may dictate trading. One also awaits the September quarter earnings report of Bonanda Engineering to gauge market reaction.

During this Muhurat trading hour, investors are encouraged to invest in large-cap stocks for the long haul. The festive mood has entered the air and thus this Muhurat trading symbolizes not only Diwali but also a fresh start in the financial arena.
