Ripple Tops Crypto Charts in India: CoinSwitch Report Q1 2025
India's crypto trading environment is experiencing a significant change in 2025, with Ripple (XRP) becoming the leader for most traded cryptocurrency, reads a latest report published by CoinSwitch. Ripple beat other top tokens such as Shiba Inu and Bitcoin to become the leader.
The popularity boom of Ripple is largely due to its adoption of the XRPL (XRP Ledger), which shortens transaction time from 24 hours to only 3–5 seconds. This innovation has attracted significant interest from corporate finance communities and retail traders alike.
Ripple Dominates Trading Activity in India
CoinSwitch statistics show that Ripple contributed 13.3% of India's overall crypto trading volume during Q1 2025. This represents a huge surge in investor interest in XRP, displacing former leader Shiba Inu from the top spots.
Bitcoin took second place with an 8.4% contribution, followed by Dogecoin at 6.4%. Other coins that were actively traded included Solana (5.6%), Ethereum (4.4%), PEPE (3.1%), Shiba Inu (2.6%), and Cardano (2.5%).
The numbers show that Indian merchants are increasingly venturing into both classic cryptocurrencies and newer, high-risk altcoins.
Shift in Investment Patterns
Balaji Srihari, CoinSwitch's Vice President, commented, "2024 was a year of change for the world's crypto space, and 2025 has begun on an even more dynamic note. Indian investors are changing rapidly. Although Bitcoin is a safe long-term asset, activity in coins such as Ripple and Solana is through the roof."
Youngsters Are Fueling the Meme Coin Frenzy
A rising youth interest in meme coins such as PEPE and BONK, characterized by their high risk and high reward, is also featured in the report. These tokens are gaining traction, particularly among Gen Z traders.
Long-Term Holding Preferences
Even though Ripple has the top position in trade volume, Bitcoin (6.9%), Dogecoin (6.6%), and Ethereum (5.2%) are still the Indian users' favorites to hold onto long-term. Shiba Inu (4.2%) and Ripple (3.5%) are also quite strong in the HODL game.
